OAS LXXI Introductions

¡Hola todos!

My name is Jazmine Colon (she/her/ella), and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your head chair for this years session of OAS. I am currently a junior at UC Berkeley pursuing a double major in Political Science and Chicano/a Studies. Academically, I focus on legislative policy and government relations in regards to both private and public interests, with an emphasis on topics of education and representation for underserved communities. While this is my first year serving as a head chair, I have spent the past three years as a member of BMUN within the Organization of American States. This year, I strive to build on the accessible and respectful environment OAS fosters for delegates each year. Our committee's commitment to diversity and inclusion motivates my participation each year; I'm hopeful OAS 71 will do the same for you, whether you are a new or returning delegate.

Outside of BMUN, I advocate for social justice and equitable public policy as a journalist. Professionally, I provide academic resources for student's interested in graduate school as a Campus Representative for the Princeton Review. Additionally, paving my own path to law school, I am an active member of the pre-law fraternity Sigma Alpha Nu. In my free time, I enjoy curating playlists for long runs, going on walks with my dog, and movie nights with my housemates!

Please reach out to us at oasbmunlxxi@bmun.org with any questions, comments, or concerns. I look forward to meeting you soon!

- Jazmine Colon, OAS Head Chair

Hi everyone! My name is Matthew Villa (he/they) and I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley studying Political Science and Sociology. My academic interests are found at the intersection between my two majors, specifically looking at how structures of power, both economic and social, influence and operate in our society. While I have lived in Germany and in various states throughout the United States, it wasn’t until I came to Berkeley that I was introduced to Model United Nations. I had the pleasure of chairing OAS for the last three sessions, making this my fourth year chairing for BMUN. Outside of BMUN, Outside of BMUN, I help steward and curate programming at the Multicultural Community Center at UC Berkeley. Alongside, I am currently working on an honors thesis in sociology related to radicalized and gendered sexual exploitation. In my free time, I like to spend time in nature, making my own tea blends, starting (and never finishing) crochet projects, and be in community with others. I am so very excited to engage, teach, debate, listen, and share space with you all during the 71st session of BMUN.

Hello and welcome to everyone! My name is Jan De Leon and I go by he/him. I am a first year student at UC Berkeley and I intend to major in political science. This will be my first year to be in any MUN or to be a chair, which makes it even more exciting to be able to serve as a co-chair for the OAS committee this session. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, running, playing a bit of tennis, watching movies (Star Wars in particular), reading books, and reading the news from time to time. Although this may be my first time in anything related to MUN, if any questions may arise, feel free to ask any of us who are chairing and we will do our best to answer them.

Hello! My name is Edgar Bojorquez and I use the he series of pronouns. I am a third year student here at Berkeley, and am majoring in political science and minoring in data science. Just like Jan this will be my first year chairing a committee, which I am looking forward to very much. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, hiking, playing the new Pokémon game: Scarlet and Violet, and watching some TV. I’m currently rewatching my favorite show: Jane the Virgin for the fifth time. If you have any questions regarding MUN feel free to ask me or any of my colleagues.
